Speaking In Tongues

Postby Ulyssiask » Sat Feb 21, 2009 8:16 am

As a reference for any person who doesn't already know, I'm J.L. or Justin Levi.

The following isn't really what you'd call a TDR Classified, but I thought this section most suitable to place this thread as it could aid role-play and on-going storylines across the vast r.p.g. worlds hosted here and amongst our community. Now, I'd like to not beat around the bush or rant too very much, but get to the point instead.

I'm learning both German and Latin. When I complete them, I intend to pursue Greek, and possibly other languages foreign to me. I'm an American, so I obviously speak American/Southern-English as my native and primary tongue. However, do not doubt my intelligence due to the appearance of the words 'southern' or 'American'. I'm well aware of the many reputations surrounding the aforementioned 'words.'

That said, I cannot fluently speak any language other than English. However, I do possess a handy talent of creating languages, both artificial and naturalistic. I've read through a great deal of information and cited many sources on this process, and am also constantly studying and refreshing my memory on it, ciphers and codes (more of a work in progress than actual accomplishment), shorthand and abbreviated writing systems, and the likes. I like to go with aesthetically pleasing languages and systems, and lean more toward syllabaries than individual alphabets.

In closing, the point I am making here is this: if you have a role-play or storyline of any kind, want to take it in depth - or have a novel or book you'd like to give depth and realistic qualities that'll make J. R. Tolkien look like a freshman (much like I wish to do) - then I can probably help you. I won't do all of the work for you, but I will certainly help and be very generous in sharing everything I know. =)

Your friendly neighborhood linguaphile,

J.L.
